111 Day Artistic Spirit Pledge: Spiritual Growth Through Creative Expression
Day 11: Stars in My Eyes and A Dream in My Heart
This past February, one artistically inspiring day changed the course of my life – both professionally and personally.
My heart fluttered and my spirit soared as I stood outside the theatre where in a little more than 24 hours the entertainment industry would reward the year’s best work with little golden statuettes. Standing on one the upper levels of the Hollywood & Highland shopping area, I watched with awe as they rolled out the red carpet. I saw media equipment getting set up and reporters rehearsing with their camera operators. There were larger versions of the well-known award statuette scattered throughout the lower level even as a light rain fell. Though only a spectator and not a participant, I felt part of something greater than myself.
“This is what I love. This is what I want to do.”
I knew without hesitation or question that being a part of an entertainment event like that is a dream I very much wanted to come true. It felt surreal, like I was walking on air. My sister and I stood in front of the large main stairway with the red carpet behind us and smiled. Staring up at the star-studded, concave ceiling, I felt at home for the first time in a very long time and knew unequivocally that one day I’d return – whether as a nominee, entertainment reporter, or event planner I knew not. I still don’t know how or when, but I’m certain that the passion I have for the craft will guide me back home.
There are so many ways that the entertainment industry inspires me, and you’ll read more throughout the coming months.
**I am an Artistic Spirit! For most of my life I’ve used the creative arts as a source of spiritual exploration and healing, even though I didn’t always do so consciously. Sometimes I was the instrument creating the art and other times I was on the receiving end. The connection between art and spirituality is so significant in my life that it’s infused into everything I do. I love music, theatre, television drama series (daytime and primetime), and creative writing and find fulfillment in artistic expression of various sorts: singing, acting, and jewelry design. Throughout the next 101 days, I’ll delve into how all of the above strengthens my spirit and has saved my life on more than one occasion.**
